Birds nest and breed this time of the year. It’s a busy time for birds.
Parent birds have work doubley hard because they have to find enough food -
for themselves, so that they can keep their strength up.
to feed their youngsters so their baby fledglings survive and do not die of starvation in the nest.

As you can see from the photo below black sunflower seed and nyjer seed are very similar.
But nyjer seed is so much smaller than black sunflower seeds.
I’ve found it hard to feed nyjer seed to birds - if I put it on a birdtable it blows away with the slightest breeze.

Have had a comment about plants that birds eat. It’s given me an idea to plant some of the sunflower seeds -

I’ve been looking into feeding peanuts to birds and it seems a very complicated issue - to me anyway.

I used to stop feeding the birds in Spring now I know that it’s best to feed them all year round. In Spring our feathered friends have tiny beaks to feed. Birds need all the help they can get when they are raising the next generation.
