Birdtables are not the place for a magpie or jackdaw. They scavenge the bird food off the table in seconds and the smaller garden birds don’t stand a chance of getting any food.
Magpies (shown above) are usually self sufficient creatures and usually manage to find food in the coldest of weather. As do jackdaws.

Hi folks
I was right trimmed I’d managed to stop bird feed falling to the ground from my feeder by attaching a tray to the bottom of the feeder. The seed now falls into the tray and not onto the floor where the farm hens and wild pheasants used to eat it.

I’ve just thrown down slices of a peeled apple onto the grass and near a small blackurrant bush. This is as well as filling up the bird feeders. A blackbird has just hopped across the grass towards the apple.

It’s dark, cold and windy outside this morning. It’ll soon be time to get the coal fire blazing in the grate and make sure the central heating is working. I want to keep warm this winter.
