As you can see from the photo below black sunflower seed and nyjer seed are very similar.
But nyjer seed is so much smaller than black sunflower seeds.
I’ve found it hard to feed nyjer seed to birds - if I put it on a birdtable it blows away with the slightest breeze.

Hi folks
I was right trimmed I’d managed to stop bird feed falling to the ground from my feeder by attaching a tray to the bottom of the feeder. The seed now falls into the tray and not onto the floor where the farm hens and wild pheasants used to eat it.

At the RSPB Feed the Birds day at Bempton I was shown a very good, simple recipe that gives birds energy quickly. It’s good because it bulks out the bird seed and gives our feathered friends much needed fat!
