Helping Birds in Winter

(2 posts)
  1. In winter the amount of time a birds can spend feeding is limited by the number of daylight hours. In winter birds may have just 8 hours or less to feed.

Birds convert food to fat and burns the fat reserved to survive the freezing hours of darkness.

Some small birds cannot store enough fat to last through more than one night.

I am putting out a lot of bird food through this severe, freezing cold spell.

Snow sometimes covers the food as soon as I put it out. I have now put a wooden board up against a garden bush in the forelorn hope that the board will stop the snow and make a sort of 'covered wooden tent' for birds to feed under

Does anyone have any tips on bird feeding in winter. Or does anyone want any advice on bird feeding in winter. Lets get together and chat

  2. Helping Birds In Winter. I think that is all I have done this winter. The weather has been so bad and a lot of their usual food has been frozen under snow and ice. The weather has been freezing cold - it must be so cold during the long nights as well.
