I filled the feeders early this morning.
I was turning a corner near the house when a flash of black ’skurried’ round the corner towards me, near the ground. I think we made each other jump.

How do birds survive in winter? They are so small and frail yet they withstand the harshest weather.
On cold winter days birds ‘fluff’ up their feathers to keep warm. This creates air pockets which helps to keep the bird warm.
Some birds perch on one leg. The bird draws the other leg to it’s breast to keep it warm.

Just after dawn this morning I stood quietly in a country lane watching a bird of prey in the distance, hovering on the invisibe currents of air. My untrained eye couldn’t tell which bird of prey it was. But in some ways that didn’t matter.

It’s dark, cold and windy outside this morning. It’ll soon be time to get the coal fire blazing in the grate and make sure the central heating is working. I want to keep warm this winter.

Hi, I had to be outside early this morning. I was filling the bird feeders up before the birds had woken from their hedgerow slumbers. It’s nice to provide bed and breakfast to a variety of garden birds. They’ll hop out of the hedge and onto the bird feeders.
