Bird Killing Bird

PHOTOGRAPH ABOVE SHOWS A HOUSE SPARROW

Having been a lover of the house sparrows along with all wildlife.  I have now refused to feed them anymore as they have killed 3 fledgling blackbirds in nest for what reason i do not know.

So sad, they pecked them to death then threw them onto the patio.

Thank you for telling us about this Steve.  Sparrows killing other birds must go on all the time.  But when it happens it must usuallyhappen out of human view.

It has been happening for years as well, as I read about  sparrows killing other birds in an old bird book that I have read.

It does make you look at sparrows differently.  Instead of thinking of them as being helpless I look at them and think of them as thugs

Googled “do blackbirds kill sparrows” and found this article, too. I did not know that sparrows did this, interesting. Within the last week I have buried a dozen or more sparrows I have found dead within a 20-ft radius of our feeders. I would say one-third of them are headless, and two-thirds have no apparent punctures or injuries. To complicate the mystery, I have found one dove and maybe 2 young, brownish-grey young blackbirds dead, too. We’re also aware of a cat that shows up after dark, but why just the heads leaving the other dead birds lay, if it is the cat? I did see a blackbird with another bird (species?) on it’s back straddling it and then flying off with it into our Russian Olive trees. Young sparrows and blackbirds are being fed by mothers. That’s all we’ve actually seen. Any ideas?

i have had ”black bird” problems for years. and my neighbor too. they Raid the bushes and break other birds eggs. and often will kill the babies , for no apparent reason… i have seen them kill babies of robins, sparrows, morning dove –ect black birds are BAD…..
