Hi, You have done really well to put up 20 boxes. How strange they haven't been used. I would have thought that some species of bird would use it.

We did have birds nesting, but funnily enough I've forgotten which bird nested there. I'm sure I've seen a fleeting glimpse off some blue tits going into this nest box this winter, but it is out of view. I know it is being used as a roost though. We did clean it out after summer and put it back.

I think I chose the right one as the nail hole is good BUT we did also tie some string round the nest box and the tree and this has helped hold it in position. I thought the string would dop / fall down but it hasn't. the string has stopped the nest box blowing about in all these gales.

So one nest box has been used as a nest and a roost. Pleased I put it up.

Really hope you get some birds in yours this year

Let me know

Hello
I have just a number of these boxes (20), I set them up in two woodlands last winter. Unfortunately only three got used. It may be because they were new and needed to weather a bit, or that the woodlands already had enough natural holes. I do, however, think that they may be a little small, boxes for smaller tits should have a floor space of 150x120, these are 130x120. I also found the "key hole" at the back not very effective at keeping it box on the tree!

It is however a sturdy box, thick wood and does have drainage so those things are good. It is BTO approved so you'd hope they would be successful in attracting birds.

Did anything use yours?
