Birds waiting to be fed
Jul 18th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
This morning I did not have time to put bird food out early in the morning.
I’ve had a bad back and my knees have started hurting (Ohhhh dear). Have been to see a chiropracter (is that how you spell it?) who has given me advice and exercises to do.
I decided to try swimming to see if that would help. The next question was - what time should I go swimming.
I decided on going to the Early Bird Session ( can’t get away from birds can i?). This session starts at 6.45 and ends at 8.15. It is one of the few times that the pool is lane swimming only.
So this morning it was straight into the car and to the swimming pool. I nearly did not go swimming, but I’m glad I did. I was amazed how many people were in the pool. I got there at 7.15 and two ladies were just getting out after swimming for half an hour.
Apologies for talking about swimming I know it has nothing to do with birds.
It was about 9am when I finally put bird food out in the garden. There was a thrush and a blackbird hopping about ‘inside’ the bush. They were looking for apple and cheese - to no avail.
There were one or two birds on the empty bird table.
There are a lot of birds I cannot see because they are hidden in the branches and hedge - but I can feel them looking at me. (I’m not mad am i?).
There were blackbirds, thrushes, sparrows hopping on the lawn. There were sparrows lined up on the fence waiting for the feeder to be filled.
So I did my daily round of bird feeding. The nut feeder did not need filling. I filled the two seed feeders and the wire covered bird table. I put bird food under the hedge and inside the meshed ground feeder. I put some scraps on the lawn and on the open bird table at the front of the house.
Usually there is not the rush in a morning that there used to be when we had a dog to look after. Our dog died a few months ago and we still miss Bonnie. She came with me round the garden nearly every time I fed the birds. I took her for a walk every morning, and because she walked slowly I took my camera and got a lot of photographs, some of which I’ve put on my blog.
If we did get another dog it would have a different temperament to Bonnie. I don’t think I could put up with a pup. I have heard of two dogs that live next door to each other. Dog One often manages to get into the garden and house of Dog Two. Dog One and ‘pinches’ the toy of Dog Two and runs back to it’s own home. Strange but true.
Maybe the swimming will replace the dog walking. I hope it helps my back and my knees. I do feel better and the gentle exercise must have helped.
I have not seen any blue tits for weeks. Maybe it is the time of year when food is abundant for them in the countryside. I hope that is the reason.
Have a good day.
