THE DROLL YANKEE PK BIRD FEEDER

The PK Feeder

• Holds up to 2lb of bird food

• Can be hung or pole mounted. There is an option to pole mount by buying the Droll Yankees Pole adapter or 1/2 leaded pipe.

You will see from these two photographs that -

• Seed is displayed in large polycarbonate tube.

• At the base of the feeder is a metal band which is an adjustable seed metering band (or sleeve).

• This metal ’sleeve’ that goes round the feeder has eight feeding port holes giving ample room for birds to feed. (photo below)

• The seed flow from these port holes is adjustable for any bird food from nyjer seed to sunflower seeds. ( I have only used millet seed). DO NOT DO WHAT I DID WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE FEEDER!

I opened the port holes too wide!

• The seed tray at the base of the feeder also gives a perching area for birds

• The special metal sleeve that goes round the base of the tube gives protection against squirrels.

PERSONAL COMMENT

I have found this feeder very useful. As I say I have only used millet in this PK Feeder because it converts to energy very quickly.

It seemed strange at first not to have port holes at the side of the feeder, but having the metal band, tray and the 8 feeder port holes at the bottom works very well.

I am looking forward to putting nyjer seed in this feeder this summer as nyjer feed is so small and very difficult to feed to birds.

The only negative thing I can say is that I have found that in very wet weather the port holes get clogged up and feed cannot get through the port holes. But this cannot be helped and happens with most hanging bird feeders. 

NOTE ADDED IN JULY 2008. 

• I have tried putting nyjer seed inside the feeder, but the birds in my garden were not interested so I’ve changed back to millet.
• I’ve found that that feeder tray collects rain.  Which of course if bound to happen.  It is easy to clean out.
• Since I put this feeder out with millet in I have had a steady stream of sparrows at this feeder.  They queue up on the fence to wait there turn.  There seems to be sparrows at the feeder all day long.  So I’m glad I bought it.

I really recommend this bird feeder. Another good point is that Droll Yankees guarantee they will replace any defective part free of charge.
