Feeding Birds at 5am on a Sunday morning
Apr 20th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
The birds were singing before 5am this morning
I was up at 4am this morning. The dog woke me up. (she has arthritis and maybe cancer)
She’s started sleeping on the settee when she thinks no one is looking (aren’t dogs stupid)
This morning she wanted to go outside. Afterwards I told her she could sleep on the settee and helped her to climb up. She sat and licked my face. Then she put her head on my knee and I stroked her for a while. I told her she was going to the vet’s on Monday for an Xray.
The upshot is I’ve been up since 4am and I was feeding the birds at 5am.
There was such a chorus of birds singing. It was as though they were having a competition to who could sing the loudest and as they were flitting about the bird table and the bird feeders I thought I might as well.
The air is so fresh at that time on a morning. There is a ‘newness’ to the day. It is like the song
MORNING HAS BROKEN LIKE THE FIRST MORNING
BLACKBIRD HAS SPOKEN LIKE THE FIRST BIRD
at 5am on a morning the stillness of the night hasn’t yet been taken over by the busy day.
The dog is now fast asleep on it’s bed, snoring away. The birds are fed. The bird feeders are nearly empty - ready for me to fill up again.
Time for a cup of tea.
