The Dog who helps me feed birds

We have a dog.
It’s not a special dog. It was a rescue dog. No one wanted it. It had been in the kennels for over a year and had been passed over time and again. It was old and weak.
I must admit when we bought it we thought it wouldn’t last long. We would give it a comfy home before it passed away.
But no. It grew big and strong and healthy. When we got it the dog was old and weak then it came to live with us and it became young and strong.
Feeding birds is a solitary hobby. Writing a blog is a solitary hobby. Having the dog near the computer, huffing and puffing and moving about the house was a comfy feeling. Having the dog walking beside me trying to pinch bits of cheese I’d put out for the birds was a comfy feeling.
The dog has been for a ride across country in the old jeep. It’s run across the Yorkshire Wolds. It’s been fed best food and had the best place in front of the fire on a cold winters night. She’s been taken a walk morning and evening. She has been loved by us all.
It’s had fun playing football and playing with water coming from a hose.
The dog is in pain. She has been on one painkiller a day for arthritis, but over the last week it has gone down hill.
Another visit to the vet was needed.
The result of the visit to the vet is that we have to take the dog for an Xray on Monday as the vet thinks it may have cancer of the bone.
For the first time since I started this blog I haven’t had to take the dog for a walk in a morning because she finds it so hard to walk and is in pain. She sleeps most of the day on a soft dog mattress.
I don’t think we will ever go for a walk together again.
Time to go and give her the painkiller.
