Bird Psychology - they know their pecking order
Mar 22nd, 2008 by Birdy Trish
I’ve been chatting to Char who had the blog Psych Matters.
She talks about how birds interact in her garden. Char builds up an image of her garden. In some ways it’s the same thing that happens in my garden.
I get so many different birds in my garden and they all interact with each other. Like humans interact with each other.
This morning I actually had a thrush on the feeder tray which is attached to the bottom of my hanging feeder. Two chaffinches were sitting on a fence close by. They flew towards the feeder and the thrush. There were other feeder ‘holes’ where they could have got food from. The chaffinches seemed to stop in mid flight, turn round and fly away fromthe hanging bird feeder. They dare not share the same feeder as the Thrush! Somehow they knew this was not allowed. They knew their pecking order!
Thanks Char for ’showing’ me your garden birds and making me realise again how birds get into every nook and cranny they can in all parts of the world!

hi trisha~ i set up my webcam yesterday. i will try to “show” my birdy backyard (sometimes they’re inside my house!) more visually next time:-)
Char, you set up a webcam! How did you do it? I’m not very technical but that’s something I’ve thought of doing. I’ve got a webcam on my camera but that’s inside the house. I think if I put a webcam up outside it would have to be a weather proof one. I’m really pleased for you. Trisha
