Nest Boxes with cameras - a question
Mar 22nd, 2008 by Birdy Trish
I’m thinking of saving up and getting a bird box with a camera - for next year.
If you have a bird box with a camera that you are using this bird nesting season and have any advice or can recommend one please let me know.
Thanks. Trisha

Trisha - re camera for nest box - go to http://www.handykam.com for a good deal - they are helpful and the products are very reasonably priced.

Mike, Thanks a lot for giving me this link. If I’d known about it sooner I may have taken action sooner. Thanks again. Trisha
Birdbox cameras are great, and they are really easy to make yourself.
This year I saved up so that I could record what is going on and now I have a great set of short videos on YouTube (so far it is from nest building to 6 eggs!).
The videos are here: http://www.youtube.com/user/cweddell
Re nest box camera I agree with Mike Wood, go for a bird box camera from handykam. We got a camera kit and fitted it to an existing nest box. They even supply the windows to allow light in so you can see the birds in colour by day and black and white a night. It is so much fun. PS thank you Trish for a fab blog. Nicky Marks - East Sussex
Hi Nicky, Thanks for those kind words ‘a fab blog!’ Cheers.
I still haven’t got a nest box camera , but am going to get a new bird box to put up so will get a handykam this year (maybe for a Christmas present!). I did get a digital recorder though and, after years of just listening to the birds singing, am having a go at recording them. Recording them singing is helping me learn which bird is singing - which is great ‘cos so often I can hear them but can’t see a single bird!- A nest box camera will give loads of info as well won’t it. Nice to hear from you. Trisha.
