A nest box attacked by a predator
Feb 17th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
This nest box has been attacked -
I do not know what type of wood the nest box is made of but it is thinner than the usual nest boxes that I buy.
Woodpeckers drill an entrance with their chisel beak.
I think that is what has happened in the photo above.
It’s a case of bird trying to eat bird again.
Squirrels, weasels, cats, crows and great spotted woodpeckers are predators
Our garden birds are subject to attack from ground and air.
TRADITIONAL NEST BOX
This nest box has stood the test of time and is made of stronger wood
If getting a tough resin nest box (one not made from wood) these are good beause predators cannot make the entrance hole larger to get to the eggs and chick inside which is what has happened to our nest box in photo
