Golden Eagle’s sight saved
Feb 15th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
A golden eagle escaping from crows attacking her lost her sight after flying into an electricity pylon in her efforts to escape the attacking crows.
After flying into the electricity pylon she developed cataracts which is why she lost her sight.
The Golden Eagle was taken to the Wings Over Mull Sanctuary because she had been badly burnt by the electricity pylon. Sue from the Wings Over Mull Sanctuary said -
“She responded to sound but not to movement. We checked her eyes and she had cataracts”
A veterinary eye specialist from Glasgow University Vet School agreed to operate on the Golden Eagle who by this time had been named Electra.
The good news is that the sight of one eye has been saved but because her eyesight is not perfect Electra will never be able to live in the wild again.
Wings over Mull are caring for her and they are hoping she will breed with a male Golden Eagle who is at the sanctuary.
