Watch the Birdie
Feb 10th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
Hope you like these photos. It took me ages to get them. The bird didn’t stay still for a minute. It flitted from branch to branch and tree to tree. It’s song and it’s colour made it easy for me to follow it as it flew near me.
When I got back from my walk I checked and I’m now certain it’s a Great Tit. But when it was flitting about so quickly it was hard to tell.

I get a lot of these Tits at my birdtable and it was good to see it enjoying the day!

Hi Trisha,
Tried to get some film of the local pair of great tits feeding but they are just don’t stay in one place long enough! I had noticed that they swooped into the table or peanut feeder, grab a bite and went back to a nearby patch of dead bramble to eat. Yesterday I got out the binoculars and was surprised to see that they grab a piece of peanut (or maybe the odd sunflower seed) and take it to the brambles. Then they hold the food between one foot and a thick horizontal bramble branch and peck off pieces at leisure. I had always assumed they just got a small enough piece to eat in one go but this does not appear to be so. I guess they just grab some food and then take it to somewhere they feel safe to eat.

Great site BTW and great photos - keep up the good work.
HI john, Thanks for saying you like my site. Those photos are the best I have taken. I had to take about twenty photos before I got those three. It’s a good job I went to a digital camera class or I wouldn’t have been able to take the photos.
I’ve found out such a lot since I started this blog diary. I think it’s fascinating that a bird balances food between it’s foot and a branch and then pecks the food. They are an intelligent lot these birds!
Best. Trisha.
