My garden birdwatch update
Jan 27th, 2008 by Birdy Trish
Things aren’t going as planned with my Garden Birdwatch.
Because of the gale force winds I don’t seem to be having as many birds in my garden this morning which is annoying because it’s the one day I want to count them.
I’m determined I’m going to spend one hour today joining in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Just hope more birds appear.
If you’re intersted this is what to do -
RECORD -
- The highest number of each species you see at any one time
- Only record the birds that actually visit the garden or the park.
DO NOT RECORD
- Do not record the total number you see during the hour as some birds may visit the area you are watching several times.
- Do not record the birds that fly overhead
See it’s as easy as that.
The trouble is the birds still haven’t appeared. I’m guessing it’s because of the wind.
To stop the bird seed blowing away I have had to move one of the tables so it’s nearly inside my hedge. The hedge shelters the bird table and the bird seed is staying put.
I have put the meshed ground feeder nearly inside the garden bush because that bird seed was being blown away as well and apart from anything else it’s such a waste of money.
I’ve hung one of the feeders on a really low branch so it’s lower than our wooden fence. the fence is sheltering the feeder from the wind.
I’m windswept and cold. My hands are cold, my hairs a mess. Time for my breakfast.

looking forward to hearing how you got on with the garden bird watch. We spent 10 minutes, counting, when the birds were on the feeder - but then they all went off as the wind got up!
Hi Top Veg, I spent an hour and wrote down the birds I saw. Will be putting in in this bird blog diary tomorrow - with a few photos hopefully.
Wasn’t the gale force wind annoying
