I’m so busy feeding the birds

I’m so busy feeding the birds I don’t have time to write about my garden birds!
I want to write something every day about birds, bird feeding and bird life. I want this tobe a daily a diary for me to look back on, but time gets in the way. So I’m going to quickly write about what I’ve done this morning so I can look back at my bird feeding routine.
It’s been raining a lot lately and the two bird tables are gunged up with old bird food. I decided to clean them with really hot water so I boiled the kettle, got two old cloths (one for each bird table) and an old jug. Pouring really hot water onto the bird tables made the wood pristine and clean. I could have eaten my breakfast off the bird tables (well not really!). I use a separate cloth for each bird table in case there are any bugs or germs on one bird table - I don’t want to transfer bugs between bird tables do I? Job done. Two bird tables as now good as new even though they are very old bird tables and the legs are a bit wobbly.

I then peeled and chopped an apple and grated a small piece of old cheese. I a put this in the meripac meshed ground feeder and the thrushes and blackbirds, robins, blue tits, sparrows flit in and out through the mesh like arrows from a bow. How do they do it? Birds are masters of the air.
I filled my special millet feeder up with - millet of course. I find the birds, the sparrows especially go mad for this.
I put a fat ball in the fat ball feeder and two different bird feed mixes into the two tube bird feeders.
All that was left was to put bird food onto the two clean bird tables.
I have my bird food in bins in the back porch. I live six miles from a shop and have to buy all my bird food in bulk. I think it doesn’t matter if we run out of bread or bacon but we can’t run out of bird food. I’m sure that because I buy in bulk I put more bird food out than I would if I only bought a small packet of bird seed at a time.
I’m getting to the end of some of my bird food so I had to put a bit of mixed bird seed with black sunflower seed, peanut granules and original mix. Good mix of bird food put on the bird tables. Job done.
Now it’s time for my breakfast.
Looking out of the window it’s a pleasure to watch all the birds come and go.

Yesterday I saw the woodpecker again and I saw a coal tit which I hadn’t seen for months.
I don’t want to put anyone off feeding birds. Feeding birds can be so easy. All you need is one bird table, or tray and one packet of bird seed mix. One of the reasons that I put so much food out is because I live in the countryside and seem to get a lot of birds in the hedges and around the house. A lot of birds roost in the bushes and hedges near the house - but you can keep bird feeding simple and easy
Have a good day and remember one bird table or bird tray and one packet of bird seed mix. That’s all you need to start to feed the birds.
