Feeding Birds in the Dark
Dec 11th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
Have you ever put bird food out when the sky is pitch black and the stars are bright in the sky?
No? Very wise of you
I’ve been away at dawn for the past 3 mornings so have been feeding in a morning by torchlight and bringing in the bird feeders on a night by torchlight.
One of the bird tables I fill up is near a hedge where some garden birds roost. As I walk close to the hedge I’m aware of all the birds that are sleeping there. As soon as dawn comes they’ll swoop on the bird table, chittering and chirping.
Bed and Breakfast for birds.
Feeding birds by starlight is annoying and pleasant at the same time.
The garden has a different feel to it when looking at it by torchlight.
Hanging up a bird feeder full of bird seed is a bit difficult. Pointing the torch in one hand and holding the bird feeder in the other makes it a bit difficult.
Am I mad doing this?
The birdtables are always empty by the end of the day.
The days are getting shorter and colder so it will be more difficult for these garden birds to get food at this time of year.
It only takes a few minutes out of the day to put the bird seed out (well maybe more than a few)
Have a good day.
Trisha
