Blue Tits at my bird feeder
Nov 24th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
I’ve been worried about the blue tits that usually brighten up my bird feeders. There haven’t been any feeding in my garden recently.
A bird survey done this summer showed young blue tit numbers down 48% this summer.
Now a group of blue tits have re-appeared at my bird feeders. It makes bird feeding worthwhile seeing 4 or 5 blue tits flit between the 4 bird feeders. They do acrobatics on the peanut feeder, swing happily on the fat ball feeder, gather on the perches of the seed feeder then flit across to the birdtable. It’s a gourmet breakfast for them at the moment.Blue Tits feed on a variety of food. They take -
- Fruit, assorted kitchen scraps, fat and meat
- Peanuts from hanging feeders
- Fat balls and suet blocks
- Halved coconut
- bird seed mix.
A blue tit takes 85% of a winters day looking for food. Imagine!
They will have more chance of survival if we put food out to help them on their way.
Here’s some of the photos I took of the blue tits feeding in my garden. Taking these photos is helping me learn ’bird photography’ and I have enjoyed taking them.
