A moorhen visits a feeder
Oct 22nd, 2007 by Birdy Trish
I managed to get this photograph of one of our family or moorhens getting food from inside the meshed feeder. I had to take it through my kitchen window as moorhens are shy, nervous birds so the photo isn’t very good.
They bred on the farm pond for the first time this year. They skurry in and out of the thick undergrowth near the hedge and we manage to catch glimpses of them.
This is one of the moorhens that hatched this year. It seems to have discovered a good feeding place!
Overnight I left the ground feeder open and without the raised feeding tray as I was cleaning the meshed tray.
Maisie Moorhen, as we called her must feel at home enough to leave the safety of the pond and walk along the hedgerow to our garden.
Wonder if she’ll come again. I’ll let you know if she does.
