Swallows on the move - or staying put?
Oct 18th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
It’s believed swallows originated in Africa. They are on their flight back there as I write this. In the 1700’s a naturalist called Gilbert White was very puzzled at the swallow’s sudden disappearance and he really believed that
swallows hibernated underwater in ponds or streams.
A hibernating swallow - now that’s a strange thought.
We now know they migrate and can fly up to 4,000 miles non stop.
