A Fascinating Bird Survey
Sep 13th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
I live on a farm and we have been lucky enough to have someone from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds doing a Bird Survey throughout the year. Here is a list of some of the birds he has seen:
- 1 European Goldfinch
- 1 Eurasian Curlew
- 1 Eurasian Collared Dove
- 2 Yellow wagtails
- 1 Northern Lapwing
- 1 Blackcap
- A small flock of European Golden Plovers seen on one of the visits.
The Golden Plovers have visited and rested for a while on their migration. I feel so pleased that we could offer these plovers a feeding site and a bit of respite from their journey. I admit I would never have known these plovers had visited if it hadn’t been for the RSPB Bird Survey as they were seen some distance from the house.
Whenever he visited the pesky starlings seemed to keep away because he only saw 2.
I have been a member of the RSPB for a number of years and encourage anyone to join. The magazine alone is worth the subscription.
He has been very professional and has walked the fields and recorded the information in a very organised way. We are both equally interested in the amazing life of birds but he has much more knowledg than I have.
