August and Birds
Aug 20th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
In some ways August is the end of the year for birds. Swallows and other migratory birds are getting ready for their long journeys. The ‘4 season’ birds are hiding in the hedgerows while they moult. The air is nearly bereft of birdsong.
There are still a lot of ‘juvenile’ birds. They look so unfinished and their feathers look as they they need filling with colour.
There is an Autumnal tang in the early morning air. As I fill the bird feeders
and bird tables grey rain clouds covers the sky. This doesn’t seem to bother the sparrows, blackbirds, great tits, thrushes, chaffinches who are feeding at the feeders. They always seem so full of joy, so perky and pleased another day has started. How can anyone be a serious birdwatcher when the birds themselves seem so joyous on such a cold, damp, dreary morning.
Later in the week I’ll be giving some Top Tips on how you can help these wild birds at this time of the year and into the winter.

I look forward to the top tips.
