Plastic Ducks and Ocean Currents

Once upon a time a long time ago - 1992 to be precise - there was a storm far out at sea. It was such a bad storm that a container ship lost some of its deck cargo overboard. Among this cargo was a flock of plastic ducks.
These plastic ducks were set afloat in a huge storm, bobbing on the waves, not of a small bath, but of a huge storm lashed ocean. Where would they end up?For the first year or so they were caught in a current but now they have crossed entire oceans. Oceanologists started to be interested in these plastic ducks. There were reported sightings of them all over the place. These plastic ducks bobbing about on the oceans 24/7 have shown us humans that it is one ocean that covers this earth of ours. Some made it onto beaches and have been found by beachcombers. I wondered how people knew they were the same ducks that had been lost overboard on that stormy night oceanologists? It seems all the ducks sighted were the original ducks lost overboard. How do we know this? Well these ducks were special plastic ducks. They had special facial features and a special serial number. Only a few people know this serial number. Any duck found is checked against this serial number to see if it is one of The Flock. This flock of plastic ducks did not stay together. One group was tossed by the waves and currents to the South Pacific.
