CATS AND BIRDS
Jul 29th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
Early this morning I found a dead bird on the ground near the birdtable in our garden. A dead sparrow. All its vibrant life force had been taken from it. So lifeless and still. As I looked down at this frail, small bird
I marvelled at the fact that, when alive, such a small bird can produce such vibrant, beautiful song every single day of its life. Now its life has been cut short.
The wind is ruffling it’s feathers and it’s sightless eyes are staring up at the blue sky. Bird song fills the air all around me which makes it even more poignant that this bird will never sing again. Why did it die?
Could the stray cat have done this?. There had been cat droppings near the bird feeder again. I keep an eye open during the day but there are never any signs of droppings. First thing in a morning cat droppings are there and a black cat has been seen at dusk.
If our dog roamed and entered a cat owners garden then there would be uproar. Perhaps the cat is truly a stray and does not have an owner. Should I collect this cat and pass it on to the RSPCA.
It is a fact that cats are responsible for the death of many British birds. To stop this massacre of the innocents should cats be kept inside all the time – in the house or in a large cat run outside?
