Walking in a Thunderstorm
Jun 23rd, 2007 by Birdy Trish
23 June 6pm.
I’ve just been outside in a thunderstorm (I set off before the storm started). I felt very insignificant.
There was no barrier between the elements and me. No buildings nearby. I was surrounded by acres and acres of open fields with a wild, angry sky above me.
My thoughts are always turning to birds these days and I wondered, for the first time ever, if birds fear thunder and lightening.
All birds must hide and shelter until the storm is over (wise things) as soon as the storm started the singing of the birds stopped and the air fell silent of birdsong. There was only the sound and the feel of the storm. I was totally alone.
Thunder roared from the sky and lightening flashed brighter than a Neon light.
Rain lashed down, hitting me like hailstones. There was no escape from it.
It seemed like hours before I reached the house.
I was glad when I got safely indoors so I could get dry and watch the rest of the storm from the comfort of a warm room – unlike the wildlife around me.
