RSPB - Three Months Interesting Data
Jun 17th, 2007 by Birdy Trish
In January, February and March this year someone from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds walked the fields and marked down the different species of birds he saw. He has spent hours walking
and I know these sightings are correct. I think thepage of information shown below makes interesting reading. 100 Rooks have been seen! No wonder they annoy me. Forty Feral Pigeons were seen in January, rising to 62 in February. I suppose they deserve to survive as much as any other bird.
I know I will learn a lot from the results of this information and appreciate the enthusiasm and knowledge that has gone into putting this information together.
4 Hedge Accentors have been seen. I did not know what a Hedge Accentor was. I was mystified. Had I got a new type of bird nearby. No. I have now learnt it is also known as a Dunnock or a hedge sparrow. One small bird has three names, no wonder I was confused. I can now see, thanks to the information sheet,(shown below) that we have three types of sparrows, The Eurasion Tree Sparrow seems to be managing OK. We do not have many of the House Sparrows or many Hedge Sparrows (Hedge Accentor). Should I put feed out to particularly attract them. Sunday 17th June 2007
